Languages, boxes & folders

Manage language pairs, create boxes and folders, design a cover, mark favourites, move, rename and delete.

Language pairs

Your words always belong to a language pair — your native language and the foreign language you’re learning. You can create as many pairs as you like (e.g. German–English and German–Spanish) and switch anytime. Exercises, statistics and settings all apply per language pair.

Switch, add, delete a language

  • Switch — tap the language pair you want at the top.
  • Add — tap the dashed plus and pick a native and foreign language.
  • Delete — press and hold a language pair and choose Delete language. Careful: this permanently removes all of that language’s boxes, words and images.
Switch the language pair at the top; add a new one via the dashed plus.

Creating boxes and folders

A box is a word list — a lesson, a chapter or a topic. A folder groups several boxes, for example per school year or textbook; folders can hold sub-folders too.

To create something new:

  1. Open All boxes (or a folder) on the start page.
  2. Tap the plus.
  3. Choose Add box, Add folder or Add book (a book bundles several boxes like a textbook — ideal for mapping units and chapters).
  4. Enter a name and tap Create.

Tip: keep boxes small and focused — several boxes of 20–50 words are easier to learn than one box of 500.

Folder or book?

  • Folder — a flexible container to group boxes (by school year or topic, say). Folders can be nested inside one another.
  • Book — represents a real coursebook. A book always sits directly under All boxes (never inside a folder), bundles the book’s units as boxes, and appears with its cover on your bookshelf.

Designing a cover

Every box has a cover — and so does every folder and book. In the box overview, tap the cover (or open the folder or book and tap Edit) to open the cover editor.

In the cover editor

  • pick a photo as the background, or
  • design a gradient: solid, linear or radial, with your own angle and radius,
  • adjust the letters (the box’s initials) in size and colour,
  • pick colours from the palette or tap for a custom colour.

That way you recognise every box at a glance.

Marking a box as a favourite

Tap the heart to add the box to your favourites.

In the box overview, tap the heart on the cover to make the box a favourite. On the start page, the heart icon next to “All boxes” shows only your favourites — so whatever you’re currently learning is one tap away.

Finding & sorting

With a lot of words, two tools help:

  • Search — the search (magnifier) finds words and boxes quickly, even across all your boxes.
  • Sort — in every word list, Sort by (the ↑↓ icon at the top) sets the order, e.g. by date, alphabet or learn progress.
  • OrderWord order in the settings flips which language is shown first in the list.

Rename, move, delete

Quick tip: instead of the More menu you can swipe a box, folder or book row for Edit · Move · Delete — and tap a row’s progress bar to jump straight into its exercise. See Quick tips & shortcuts.

Via More in the box overview

  • Rename — give the box a new name.
  • Move — place the box in a different folder. (Folders nest at most two levels deep.)
  • Delete — removes the box with all its words. A confirmation protects you from mistakes.

Move: pick a destination

When you move, a list of all folders and boxes opens. Tap your way to the target folder and confirm with Move — done.

When moving, you pick the destination folder from the list.

Move several boxes at once

To move several boxes or folders in one go: in the box overview, press and hold a box — or tap Select at the top —, tick every box you want (or Select all) and tap Move boxes. You then pick the destination folder from the list, just like above.

Managing a box: the More menu

In the box overview, tap More to see every action for the box in one place — this is where you reset or delete it.

What’s in the More menu

  • Rename and Move – as described above.
  • Reset Flashcard Box – moves every word in the box back to compartment 1 and clears the spacing schedule. The spaced-repetition rhythm starts over; the words themselves stay.
  • Reset learn progress – sets learn score, repetitions, wrong answers and time learned to zero. The box’s stats start fresh; the words remain.
  • Delete box – permanently removes the box and all the words in it. A confirmation (“Do you want to delete the box … with all included words?”) guards against mistakes.
The More menu: rename, move, reset — or delete the box.

The two reset actions and Delete are marked in red — they can’t be undone, so read the prompt before you confirm.
