Sharing vocabulary

Exporting and importing boxes and folders as a .vbxshare file — with classmates, study groups or students.

What gets shared?

When you share a box or folder, you get a single file (extension .vbxshare) you can send to friends. It holds the chosen box or folder with all its nested boxes, words and images — nothing is missing, not even the pictures.

Sharing goes both ways

You can send files and receive them just as easily. In a study group you pass your boxes back and forth, so everyone quickly has everyone else’s words.

Exporting

  1. Open the folder or box you want to share.
  2. Choose Share with friends → Export.
  3. Send the file like any other — via messenger, e-mail or AirDrop.

Importing

If someone sent you a .vbxshare file, simply open it — or go to Share with friends → Import in the app and pick it. Imported boxes land at the top level under “All boxes”; from there you can sort them wherever you like.

Sharing ≠ backup

VocaBox has two file formats that are easy to mix up:

  • .vbxshare — individual folders/boxes to pass on to others.
  • .vbxbackup — a backup: the complete snapshot of all your data, meant for moving to a new device. See Backup & restore for more.

The app tells you on import if you picked the wrong format.

Common pitfalls

  • “This file was made with a newer version” — the sender has a newer app version. Update VocaBox in the store, then the import works.
  • For teachers: maintain a box once, export it and send the file to your class — everyone imports it with one tap, images included.
